Curly Hair
Tips to emphasise your curls and get rid of that frizziness
1) Do not use a brush
on those beautiful locks, brushing curly hair will make it frizzy. the hair should
be treated whilst wet and left to dry naturally for the best conditioned curly hair.
Brushes are harsh on most types of hair, but curly hair should not be treated and
pulled in the manner brushes behave.
2) Use an Afro comb, when hair is wet and leave
to dry naturally. Using an Afro comb separates the curls, enabling the curl to form
and dry in shape. it is kinder to curly hair and is not damaging to the hair and
the ends, which can also effect the look of curly hair.
3) Curly hair is prone to
dryness, for best results use a leave in conditioner or spray. Curly hair tends to
be very dry and the ends split quite often. ensuring all split ends are removed from
the hair on a regular basis and a good quality conditioner can make all the difference.
They may seem expensive but will be well worth the money when you see the results.
4)
When drying use a diffuser put heat setting on high and speed setting on low make
sure the roots are dry first. This ensure the hair does not become too dry during
the drying process. If the ends are dried first and then you return to the roots,
the ends are still receiving heat which will keep removing the moisture from the
hair. If the roots are not dried in the initial stages of drying the hair, the curl
effect will instantly drop out, the roots are unable to hold the mass of curls. A
little like trying to set a fence post in cement, if the cement is still wet the
post will fall.
5) If you have coloured your curly hair, use a colour care shampoo
conditioner if you have some spare time leave it on for at least 10 minutes, it makes
all the difference. The colour care shampoos and conditioners have built in moisturisers
for the hair. As curly hair is very dry we need all the help we can get to retain
the moisture in this style.
6) If you straighten the feminine curls of yours, make
sure it is protected with the right products, Too much straightening can send your
ends straight too. As straightening is very harsh on the hair, and in effect is like
ironing the hair, this removes a lot of moisture and there are specific products
to assist in straightening curly hair. Also a good set of straighteners are needed
when straightening curly hair as this is the hardest hair to tame.
7) If normal or
colour care conditioners are not enough for your hair - penetrating conditioners
are great! They put a lovely shine on your hair too! They do exactly what it says
on the tin, deeply penetrates your hair, this is what curly needs on a regular basis.
It may look like a lot to pay compared to other products, but to maintain a healthy
looking curly head of hair you will really need these products.
8) Medication for
your hair, skin, and nails. What a great product the best I have seen yet, It replaces
lost moisture from the hair and acts like a vitamin, You can find this at most good
health shops. Hair gets damaged just by being out in our atmosphere with all the
toxins and pollutants. As with the rest of our body our hair needs to have vitamins
etc replaced. If our bodies cannot provide the essential nutrients through the bodies
system then we need to be able to get them somehow. There are some excellent products
out on the shelves now and I would advise to invest in some for your curly hair.
9) Do not wash your hair every day it will send your hair static and dry this is
due to your hair loosing its natural oils. Even if you use the dry/damaged shampoo
and conditioners for your curly hair, you will still loose moisture this happens
every time we wash our hair, removing the natural oils that our scalps produce. If
the hair is already dry this will not help at all, washing I would say every other
day or every third day would be more beneficial.
10) Our diet has a huge impact on the appearance of our hair, if our bodies are healthy
it will show through the shine and bounce in our hair. As curly hair can become very
dry you should ensure that you drink lots of fluids and maintain a healthy balanced
diet.
